The postcard route, slowed down

The Northwest Tour runs the full day along Madeira's wildest edge - from the Cabo Girão skywalk (Europe's tallest sea cliff) along the rugged north coast to Porto Moniz, where you get two hours of swimming in the natural lava pools, before turning back through Fanal forest at the end of the day.

What you'll see

  • São Vicente (~25 min) - north-coast village, traditional architecture
  • Aqua de Alto waterfall - photo stop on the cliff road
  • Seixal black-sand beach (~25 min) - volcanic sand, cliffs and waterfalls
  • Porto Moniz natural pools (~2h) - swim in lava-carved Atlantic pools
  • Fanal forest (~40 min) - UNESCO laurissilva, ancient laurels in fog
  • Ponta do Sol (~30 min) - the warmest microclimate on the island, closing stop
